Katie Staley

LPC Intern

Kathryn (Katie) Staley is currently a Post-Master´s Certificate student at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) and is seeking LPC licensure. Katie has a Master´s Degree in School Counseling from SCSU and has worked as a school counselor since 2019. Her experience is primarily with children and adolescents, and has worked with adults in a practicum placement at Bridgeport Adult Education. Katie has experience in working with children with disabilities and can assist with the overwhelming nature of navigating IEPs and 504 Plans in schools. Katie´s professional interests include working with clients who have experienced trauma, multicultural counseling, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, PTSD, Adjustment Disorders, and working with clients who engage in Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI). Katie believes that treatment should be individualized and specific to the needs of each individual person, and her approach utilizes creative counseling techniques as well as aspects of CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused therapy, Strength-Based therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. Katie believes that all clients have strengths and have the ability to navigate through life's challenges. She views her role as a guide to help clients find additional coping skills, resources, and new insights/understandings to add to their pre-existing skills and abilities.
